Here we have a stellar impression of this beautiful and highly desirable print. The paper is a medium weight laid with the DHP stamp on the verso and with the numbering "XX" in ink. The condition is excellent. "Owlpen Manor is near Uley, in Gloucestershire. It was built, and the yews were planted, in 1515, and remained in the hands of Daunt family until 1925 when it was bought and put in good repair by the architect Norman Jewson, the close friend of the artist." This rare print was one of Griggs' favorites. The historic manor house and gardens have been open to the public since 1966.

The condition is excellent. This is the larger version of the subject etched originally in 1917 (see Comstock 19). In the fourth state the artist removed the four horizontal lines and filled in the blank areas. In both states "a considerable edition was printed."

Fine condition apart from minor toning in the upper left sheet corner. This print was published by Ambrose Vollard for his Album des Peintres-Gravures. The artist focused on social and political commentary and this early work has a Nabis like quality to it.

The condition is very good other than for a few specks of foxing in the margins and wrinkling along the very top edge of the sheet. This work was published in l'Estampe Originale and bears their blindstamp in the lower left corner of the margin (Lugt 819). (From the collection of André Fildier (1928-2001), a prominent expert on postcards.)

The margins are full and the condition is very good. There's minor soiling and foxing in the margins and a couple of tears at the sheet edges. The set of "Six Marines," of which this is plate six, was published by V.Mourlot, Paris, and his blindstamp is in the lower margin.

This tour de force of early French lithography is plate five from "Six Marines," as printed by Charles Motte (1785-1836).

There's a Horst Janssen Museum in his hometown, Oldenburg.

The condition is excellent. Janssen excelled at self portraiture and he produced innumerable version of his own likeness. This is the case here as the artist leans down to offer his cat, Lydia, a mouse. Janssen is widely considered one of the finest draughtsmen and printmakers of his generation. His work is found in a vast number of museums in Europe as well as here in the United States. This includes the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. He's had exhibitions at the Rembrandthuis Museum and the Leopold Museum in Vienna.

Kirkpatrick was born in Dublin and studied at the South Kensington Academy of Art in London. She originally trained as a watercolor painter but block prints became her first love. For many years she lived at Cowes, Isle of Wight, and maintained a studio there.

This is a superb impression printed on cream VAN GELDER watermarked paper. The margins are full. The condition is fine apart from just a faint suggestion of light toning within an earlier mat opening. Laage was born in Hamburg and began his printmaking career in 1896. He lived in Paris for many months beginning in 1900 and participated in exhibitions in Vienna and Dresden. He became friendly with Kandinsky, Hans Neumann and Karl Hofer as they exhibited together. Gustave Schiefler published the first catalogue of his woodcuts in 1912 and an article was written about Laage by ER Weiss for Ver Sacrum. Laage is best know for his woodcuts and they range from decidedly expressionist in style to a more realistic approach tinged with stoicism, as seen here. This large, impressive woodcut is one of his most captivating works.

Apart from some slight rippling along the top edge, the condition is fine. This is a large and exceptional print by Laage and early, pre-publication proofs are hard to find.
